Word 2007 saves documents with the suffix “.docx” and these cannot be opened by anyone with earlier versions of Word (which uses the suffix “.doc)
If you would prefer to always save your documents as “.doc” –
Click on the Office icon in the top left-hand corner of a new document screen
A dialogue box opens up headed “Recent documents” and at the bottom is button marked “Word options”
Click this button and select “Save” in the list on the left-hand side of the new dialogue box
In the new dialogue box now displayed, go to “Save files in this format”
Click on the drop-down list and select “Word 97-2003 .doc”
Remember to select “OK” to save your new preference.
